Course Overview


This course provides Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses the knowledge and skills to assess patient who require nasogastric tube, perform insertion of nasogastric tube (NGT) and care of patients with NGT.



By the end of this course, the learners will be able to:

  1. state the indications of NGT insertion
  2. perform patient assessment prior to NGT insertion
  3. identify risk factors and contraindication of NGT insertion
  4. demonstrate NGT insertion
  5. demonstrate knowledge of various methods to troubleshoot
  6. demonstrate correct technique to check NGT placement
  7. perform patient education related to the care of NGT

Catherine Tiong Jie Yun

NGT Insertion and Feeding Trainer

Ms Catherine Tiong Jie Yun is a NGT Insertion and feeding trainer. She has over 17 years of experience, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Curtin University of Technology, Singapore [2007]). She currently works in Homage Nursing Agency and Jaga-Me in supervising swab sites, performing phlebotomy operations on various dormitories and other vaccination and nurse duties. Prior to this, she has also worked in Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health, the Ministry of Defense, ITE, Hyperbaric & Occupational Medicine, Pfizer Clinical Research Unit Singapore, NHC and SGH. Her key skills include nursing education with 5 years of teaching experience in ITE and Parkway College.

Course Fees: $520.00 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in
eligible community care organisations.
