Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

This course provides Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses the knowledge and skills to assess patient who require nasogastric tube, perform insertion of nasogastric tube (NGT) and care of patients with NGT.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES / OUTLINE

By the end of this course, the learners will be able to:

  1. state the indications of NGT insertion
  2. perform patient assessment prior to NGT insertion
  3. identify risk factors and contraindication of NGT insertion
  4. demonstrate NGT insertion
  5. demonstrate knowledge of various methods to troubleshoot
  6. demonstrate correct technique to check NGT placement
  7. perform patient education related to the care of NGT

Ng Yuan Leng Joyce

NGT Insertion and Feeding Trainer

Ms Ng Yuan Leng Joyce is a NGT Insertion and feeding trainer. She has over 36 years of working experience, and holds a Bachelor of Health Science (University of Sydney [2008]). She currently works in Parkway Nursing College, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nanyang Technological University as a Clinical Facilitator. Her job responsiblities include supervising medical students in clinical skills, training students through the impartation of practical nursing in laboratory and hospital settings, and training patient care assistants in various clinical skills. Prior to this, she has also worked as a freelance nurse and a staff nurse in NUH and Balestier Hospital.

Course Fees: $568.22 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in
eligible community care organisations.
