Microsoft Excel & Powerpoint (Basic)


Course Overview


At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Use Excel to pinpoint key information quicker and more easily.
  2. Apply Excel and its editing, data handling, functions and analysis features to provide more sharply-defined analysis and reports.
  3. Create visually engaging presentation slides through Powerpoint.
  4. Engage the audience with presentation skills that harness Powerpoint tools.



  1. Managing data with Excel features:
    • Row & column features, sort, filter, split, transpose and formulae
    • Drop-downs, format, quick analysis, templates, pivot table and field list
    • Charts, Sparklines and Slices to create an Excel Dashboard with buttons
  2. Handling data safely.
  3. Creating sophisticated presentation with Powerpoint tools:
    • Setup, templates, slides, layouts, text & tables, pictures & graphics, animation, transitions, adding animated GIFs or videos
    • Themes and editing slide master
  4. Creating presentation that is visually engaging and congruent to intended purpose.


Please Note:

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Karen Tan

Senior Lecturer, Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Ms Karen Tan is a senior lecturer with over 19 years of experience and is currently working in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She holds a Master’s of Science from NUS (2017), a WSQ advanced certificate in training and assessment from STADA (2010), a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from NTU (2000) and has been a WSQ Trainer with Ngee Ann Polytechnic since 2011. She has also been involved with course developing for WSQ bridging physics and is a trainer for WSQ compose technical report course. Prior to working in Ngee Ann, she worked as a freelance educator and Musik Box Director, as an education officer in MOE, a Sales & Manufacturing Engineer in Western Electronics, and a process engineer in Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific. Her area of specialization includes training and development (PET and CET), design thinking, presentation skills, report writing, management of technology and mathematical thinking.

Ricky Chua Kee Sze

Lecturer, Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Mr Ricky Chua Kee Sze is a lecturer with over 12 years of experience and is currently working in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from NTU (2005), and a PhD in Materials Science from NTU (2012). Prior to joining NP, he was the Founder CEO of various organizations such as General Pacific Technologies, and His area of specialization includes presentation, communications, training, and sales. He was also involved in the World Young Person’s Lecture Competition as a runner-up in 2007, and as a trainer in 2012 and 2013, and as a neuro-linguistic programming practitioner.

Course Fees: $803.40 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
