Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

This course aims to provide participants with the clinical knowledge and skills for providing essential long-term care for frail elderly living in the community.

 

COURSE OUTLINE

  1. Age-related physical changes and frailty
  2. Nutrition and hydration guidelines for elderly patients
  3. Incontinence and constipation
  4. Polypharmacy and medication management in the elderly
  5. Dealing with delirium, dementia, and depression
  6. Pain assessment
  7. Conducted structured activities for elderly engagement
  8. Community services and care planning

 

Please Note:

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Sim Puay Cheng

Senior Nurse Educator, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Sim Puay Cheng is a highly-experienced nurse leader with over 30 years of clinical experience and is currently working as a Senior Nurse Educator at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). She holds several qualifications: Master of Arts (Human Resource Development) (SIM-George Washington University, USA / 1999), Bachelor of Nursing (La Trobe University, Australia / 1993), Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education (National Institute of Education / Singapore / 2013), and WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (CBLD, Singapore / 2010). Her area of specialization includes critical care, gerontology, infection control and nursing education.

Ms Anita Yiu

Principal Occupational Therapist / Head, Kwong Wai Shiu Care

Ms Anita Yiu is a occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience. She is currently working as the Head, Kwong Wai Shiu Care. Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Yiu has worked in several public and private organizations in Hong Kong and Singapore. She holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (1997). Her area of specialization includes occupational Therapy clinical skills, elderly care, neuro-geriatrics care, training and development . She is extensively involved in in-house training courses for therapists, therapy aides and care staff at KWSH.

Margaret Goh

Head of department/Principal Physiotherapist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Margaret Goh is a physiotherapist with over 17 years of experience. She is currently working as the Head, Rehabilitation at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Goh has worked in several public and private healthcare organizations. She holds several qualifications: Bachelor of Health Sciences, Physiotherapy (SIM, Singapore, 2005) and Diploma in Physiotherapy (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore, 2002). Her area of specialization includes elderly care, neuro-geriatrics and physiotherapy clinical skills. She is extensively involved in in-house training courses for thera-pists, therapy aides and care staff at KWSH.

Ms Juliana Wang

Senior Physiotherapist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Juliana Wang is a physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience. She is currently working as a Senior Physiotherapist at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Wang has worked at two major tertiary hospitals in Singapore. She holds several qualifications: Master of Science in Neurological Physiotherapy (Hong Kong Polytechnic University / Hong Kong / 2013), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (University of South Australia / Australia / 2007), and Diploma in Physiotherapy (Nanyang Polytechnic / Singapore / 2005). Her area of specialization includes neuro-rehabilitation and geriatric rehabilitation.

Course Fees: $400.00 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
