Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

This course provides Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses the knowledge and skills to perform female urinary catheterisation, care of clients with indwelling catheter and strategies to prevent Catheter Associated Urine Tract Infection (CAUTI).

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the learners will be able to:

  • state the indications of urinary catheterisation
  • perform patient assessment prior to urine catheter insertion
  • identify risk factors involved in catheterisation
  • demonstrate urinary catheterisation using aseptic technique
  • perform patient education related to the care and maintenance of urinary catheter

Shu Shu Thike Kyaw

Senior Lecturer, Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health

Ms Shu Shu Thike Kyaw is a senior lecturer in Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health with over 13 years of experience in the healthcare and education industry. She holds a master’s of science (Nursing Education) (2015) from Queen Margaret University (United Kingdom). Her area of specialization includes teaching in academic courses, teaching in short courses, developing nursing courseware materials for diploma in nursing program and training needs analysis. She also has related experience providing nursing skills training for student nurses, management of paediatric and neonatal resuscitation, basic cardiac life support training, lecturing experience at NTUC Learning Hub, a facilitator/trainer for in-house courses like phlebotomy, patient care assistant and teaching nursing related topics to radiography students.

Course Fees: $568.22 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in
eligible community care organisations.
