Course Overview

Based on the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC)’s principles and requirement, the course emphasises on equipping participants with practical and theoretical knowledge in handling emergencies.
This course is intended for participants who would like to be equipped with the first aid skills. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to implement what they have learned when it comes to unforeseen circumstances in home or workplace requiring first aid.
It aims to provide the participants practical and theoretical knowledge in handling emergencies, focusing on:

1. Understand the principles and practise of first aid;
2. Management of medical emergencies;
3. Management of wounds and fractures;
4. Providing CPR and AED application;
5. Handling and transportation of casualty;

COURSE OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the principles and practice of first aid;
2. Management of medical emergencies:
3. Management of wounds and fractures;
4. Providing CPR and the application of AED;
5. Handling and transportation of casualty;

COURSE OUTLINE
This Course is divided into ten (10) modules:

1. Understand the principles and practice of first aid;
2. Management of medical emergencies:
3. Managing breathing difficulties;
4. Managing the unconscious patient;
5. Managing wounds, bleeding and shock;
6. Managing occupational eye injuries;
7. Management of fractures and soft tissue injuries;
8. Management of burn injuries;
9. Handling and transportation of casualty;
10. Applying cardio pulmonary resuscitation and use of automated external defibrillator;

This course is accredited by the National First Aid Council (NFAC) for the National Registry of Coaches (NROC), National Resuscitation Council and is valid for 2 years.

Course Trainers

KWSH is delivering the course in partnership with the COSEM Safety & Security Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary company of the Co-operative of Singapore Civil Defence Force Employees Ltd (COSEM). It is managed and staffed by experienced ex-employees of the Singapore Civil Defence Force and other professionals.

Mr Steven Tan

Steven Tan is a registered nurse with Singapore Nursing Board. Steven has been involved in first aid training since 2008. First aid courses that he is qualified to instruct includes Standard First Aid Course, Child First Aid Course, Occupational First Aid Course, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation Course. He is also a chief instructor in BCLS+AED Course. He previously worked as a paramedic at SCDF for seven years. During his stint with SCDF, he has seen and managed many medical, trauma and collapse cases. In year 2006, he completed his advance paramedic specialist course (level 4) from Civil Defence Academy. These experiences will be useful when he conducts his first aid training as he can relate and inject realistic scenarios to trainees.

Mr Mohammed Shahrul

Shahrul has been involved in first aid, fire and rescue training since 2007. First aid courses that he is qualified to instruct includes Standard First Aid Course, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation Course. His stint with SCDF will be useful when he conducts his first aid training as he can relate and inject realistic scenarios to trainees.

Course Fees: $199.29 (inclusive of 7% GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
