Course Overview

This course is targeted at newly-recruited nurses within the community care sector and aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to administer medication safely and efficiently within the community care sector. More specifically, the participants will focus on adhering to the principles of medication safety, drug calculations and demonstrate competency in administering medication safely.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the steps towards safe handling of medications.

2. Perform drug calculation correctly.

3. Perform medication administration for the following routes: a) Subcutaneous (SC) route; b) Intramuscular (IM) route; and c) Intravenous (IV) route.

Course Trainers

This course is delivered by trainers from Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital.

Ms Serene Tan

Ms Serene Tan is a registered nurse with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is currently working as a Nurse Clinician at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). She holds several qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing (La Trobe University, Australia / 2010), Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Critical Care) (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore / 2008), WSQ Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (IAL, Singapore / 2015), WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ITE, Singapore / 2010), Diploma in Nursing (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore / 2006), and ITE Certificate in Nursing (Institute of Technical Education, Singapore / 2003).

Dr Sam Goh

Dr Sam Goh is a registered nurse with more than 14 years of experience and SRFAC-accredited chief instructor. He is currently working as a Senior Nurse Clinician at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH) and also serves as an adjunct faculty with the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies at National University of Singapore. He has extensive experiences in the field of critical care, nursing management and education, having worked in several tertiary hospitals in Singapore. Prior to joining the community care sector, Dr Goh was extensive-ly involved in many training and development programs for healthcare profes-sionals in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Australia.

Course Fees: $452.88 (inclusive of 7% GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
