Course Overview
COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS
The program equips the participants with knowledge and skills in managing patients with central venous devices (CVD) and Port-a-cath, and safe administration of intravenous medication via these devices. It also emphasizes on central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and other related complications.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, the learners will be able to:
- identify the indication of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- list the common sites and types of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- discuss the care of patient with central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- discuss the importance of ensuring line patency and troubleshooting of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- demonstrate safe administration of intravenous (IV) medication
- describe the management of central venous devices and Port-a-cath infections and complications.
- demonstrate correct technique to flush central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
COURSE OUTLINE
- Indication of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- Common sites and types of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- Assessment of patient with central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- Care of insertion site, guideline for flushing and troubleshooting of central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- Administration of medication and infusions via central venous devices and Port-a-cath.
- Patient education

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Course Details
Course Fees: $568.22 (excluding GST)
Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in
eligible community care organisations.
