Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

This course aims to equip and update nurses and allied health care professionals on infection control principles and practices to enable them to function effectively as healthcare professionals in their respective clinical areas. As infection prevention and control is an integral part of healthcare delivery, nurses and allied health professionals have an important role to play to ensure that their own safety and those of the patients under their care are not compromised.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  1. Explain chain of infection, modes of transmission and vulnerable host
  2. List components of infection control programme
  3. Identify the roles and responsibilities of infection control committee members
  4. Recognize the important aspects in pandemic preparedness
  5. State the major steps in outbreak management
  6. Outline key principles in environmental cleaning guidelines
  7. Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  8. Illustrate preventive measures for common infectious diseases

Course Trainers

KWSH is delivering the course in partnership with Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health.

Ms Mohanaa D/O Letchman Naidu

Senior Lecturer, Parkway College

Ms Mohanna is a senior lecturer in Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health with over 18 years of experience in the healthcare and education industry. She holds a master in health service management from Griffith University (2018). Prior to working in Parkway College, she has also worked in Farrer Park Hospital and Changi General Hospital as a Nurse Educator/Nurse Clinician. Her area of specialization includes healthcare management, infection prevention and control, perioperative nursing and education and training. She also has related experience as a hospital infection control nurse assessing needs, developing goals and measurable objectives, and preparing lesson plans for educational trainings; preparing, presenting and coordinating educational workshops, lectures, discussions on a variety of infection prevention and control topics; applying critical reading skills to evaluate research findings; and incorporating research findings into practice through education and consultation.

Course Fees: $625.04 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
