Basic Infection Prevention and Control Course (Intermediate)


Course Overview


This course aims to equip and update nurses and allied health care professionals on infection control principles and practices to enable them to function effectively as healthcare professionals in their respective clinical areas. As infection prevention and control is an integral part of healthcare delivery, nurses and allied health professionals have an important role to play to ensure that their own safety and those of the patients under their care are not compromised.



At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  1. Explain chain of infection, modes of transmission and vulnerable host
  2. List components of infection control programme
  3. Identify the roles and responsibilities of infection control committee members
  4. Recognize the important aspects in pandemic preparedness
  5. State the major steps in outbreak management
  6. Outline key principles in environmental cleaning guidelines
  7. Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  8. Illustrate preventive measures for common infectious diseases

Ms Sue Goghari Siblisuraya

Manager, Parkway College

Sue started her career in Nursing in 1989 before going into Infection Prevention and Control in 2003. She led and managed the infection control program at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Parkway East Hospital from 2003 until July 2012. As part of her work for Parkway Group Hospitals in Singapore, she has provided various training on Healthcare Quality and Safety as well as Infection Prevention and Control. In addition, she had provided consultancy and training on JCI standards to hospitals in China. As part of her work for Parkway College, she had provided training and consultancy on Quality, Safety, Infection Prevention and Control and Healthcare Management to Medical and Healthcare Institutions in Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam, Malang, Myanmar and Abu Dhabi. Her portfolio also includes academic lectures for both Graduate Diploma and Diploma in Healthcare Management In addition, she facilitates training matters relating to service and leadership programs in Parkway College to both local and international clients. Delegates have given rave reviews for her delivery and presentation skills.

Course Fees: $589.16 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
