Course Overview

  • Recognise the impact of dementia on the person and caregivers
  • Create a supportive environment for persons with dementia
  • Include person with dementia in everyday activities through effective communication
  • Mobilise appropriate resources and professional help for persons with dementia

Target Participants

For individuals who have brief contact with persons with dementia, working in senior services such as Senior Activity Centres, Family Service Centres, befriending services, grassroots and religious organisations.

Course Trainers

KWSH is delivering the course in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Disease Association (ADA)

Ms Joanne Loy

Ms Joanne Loy has been working as a Senior Programme Coordinator with ADA since 2012. She has a keen interest in the field of dementia care. As a key member of the Eldersit team in ADA, Joanne collaborates closely with carers and eldercare workers in guiding or educating them to engage persons with dementia in meaningful activities at home. In her role as a co-ordinator, she assesses and conducts case management, linking clients and carers to appropriate community resources and supporting care for persons with dementia. She is a certified DCM Basic User with University of Bradford and Spark of Life certified facilitator. An ACTA-certified trainer, she conducts training sessions for carers and eldercare workers within ADA as well as in the community.

Zeny Seah

Zeny Seah has many years of experience as a Professional Relations Manager in a leading retail and consumer organisation, with a focus on professional marketing. Prior to joining the Eldercare sector, she volunteered with ADA as one of their elder-sitters despite her travelling work schedules. She was the centre supervisor of a Senior Activity Centre, coordinating support services and organising activities for the seniors residing in HDB rental flats. Zeny enthuses others with her energy and finds satisfaction from helping seniors and persons with dementia. She has attained the WSQ Professional Diploma in Community and Social Services (Senior Services) and is certified in Dementia Care Mapping (Basic User).

Course Fees: $214.91 (incl 7% GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
