Course Overview

This course aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to manage fall risks and improve mobility for residents within a nursing home setting.

This course consists of 3 modules:

  1. Fall Risks Management
  2. Exercise and Use of Assistive Devices for Mobility
  3. Medications and Fall Risk in the Elderly

Margaret Goh

Head of department/Principal Physiotherapist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Margaret Goh is a physiotherapist with over 17 years of experience. She is currently working as the Head, Rehabilitation at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Goh has worked in several public and private healthcare organizations. She holds several qualifications: Bachelor of Health Sciences, Physiotherapy (SIM, Singapore, 2005) and Diploma in Physiotherapy (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore, 2002). Her area of specialization includes elderly care, neuro-geriatrics and physiotherapy clinical skills. She is extensively involved in in-house training courses for thera-pists, therapy aides and care staff at KWSH.

Ms Juliana Wang

Senior Physiotherapist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Juliana Wang is a physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience. She is currently working as a Senior Physiotherapist at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Wang has worked at two major tertiary hospitals in Singapore. She holds several qualifications: Master of Science in Neurological Physiotherapy (Hong Kong Polytechnic University / Hong Kong / 2013), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (University of South Australia / Australia / 2007), and Diploma in Physiotherapy (Nanyang Polytechnic / Singapore / 2005). Her area of specialization includes neurorehabilitation and geriatric rehabilitation.

Ng Sooi Teng

Physiotherapy Associate, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Mr Ng Sooi Teng is a physiotherapy associate with over 6 years of experience and is currently working at Kwong Wai Shiu hospital. Prior to joining the community care sector, Mr Ng has worked in physio and medical centres in Malaysia. He holds a bachelor in physiotherapy from Anglia Ruskin University & Mahsa University, Malaysia (2016) and a diploma in physiotherapy from Aimst University, Malaysia (2013). His area of specialization includes neuro and geriatric rehabilitation. He is also extensively involved in coordinating and conducting learning activities in KWSH.

Yap Roh Ling

Physiotherapist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Yap Roh Ling is a physiotherapist with over 5 years of working experience and is currently working at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. Prior to joining KWSH, Ms Yap has worked in the ECON healthcare group & nursing home in Singapore. She holds a bachelor of science (hons) in physiotherapy from INTI University, Malaysia (2014). Her area of specialization includes neuro and geriatric rehabilitation. She is also extensively involved in planning and training care staff and designing exercise guidelines for patients.

Ms Sim Puay Cheng

Senior Nurse Educator, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Sim is a registered nurse with over 30 years of clinical experience and SRFAC-accredited chief instructor. She is currently working as a Senior Nurse Educator at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). She holds several qualifica-tions: Master of Arts (Human Resource Development) (SIM-George Wash-ington University, USA / 1999), Bachelor of Nursing (La Trobe University, Australia / 1993), Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education (National Institute of Education / Singapore / 2013), and WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (CBLD, Singapore / 2010). Her area of specialization includes critical care, gerontology, infection control and nursing education.

Ms Serene Tan Shi Ling

Nurse Clinician, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Serene Tan Shi Ling is a registered nurse with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is currently working as a Nurse Clinician at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). She holds several qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing (La Trobe University, Australia / 2010), Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Critical Care) (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore / 2008), WSQ Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (IAL, Singapore / 2015), WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ITE, Singapore / 2010), Diploma in Nursing (Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore / 2006), and ITE Certificate in Nursing (Institute of Technical Education, Singapore / 2003).

Whelan Jonathan Toh Han Lin

Pharmacist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Mr Whelan Jonathan Toh Han Lin is a pharmacist 4 years of experience and is currently working at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Honours) from the National University of Singapore (2014). Prior to joining KWSH, Mr Toh worked in Unity Healthcare Cooperative Limited as a pharmacist. His area of specialization includes pharmacotherapy and pharmacology.

Yong Yuen Teng

Pharmacist, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Ms Yong Yuen Teng is a pharmacist with over 7 years of experience and is currently working at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of South Australia (2010). Prior to joining KWSH, Ms Yong worked in Singapore General Hospital as a pharmacist. Her area of specialization includes pharmacotherapy and pharmacology. She has also been involved in training nurses on the topic of “Allergy and G6PD” for SGH.

Course Fees: $240.00 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
