Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. State the importance of environmental cleaning and disinfection
  2. Assess infection control measures to guide the level of cleaning
  3. Identify best cleaning practices for different types of care areas
  4. Identify occupational health and safety issues related to environmental services

 

COURSE OUTLINE

  1. Guidelines for environmental cleaning and disinfection in healthcare settings
  2. Infection control and the environment
  3. Cleaning and disinfection best practices for patient care and food preparation areas
  4. Assessment of cleanliness and quality control
  5. Management of cleaning supplies, cleaners’ rooms, laundry and bedding
  6. Occupational health and safety issues related to environmental services

 

Please Note:

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Target Participants

Supervisors, housekeeping staff, care staff including therapy aides, nursing aides, patient care assistants, and healthcare assistants

Course Trainers

Dr Chew Joon Lin

Senior Lecturer, Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Dr Chew Joon Lin is a senior lecturer with over 11 years of experience and is currently working in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from NUS (2007), a Master of Science from NUS (2002), a specialist diploma in Workplace Safety and Health from Singapore Polytechnic (2014) and an advanced certificate in training and assessment (2012). Prior to joining NP, Dr Chew worked in the National Cancer Centre as a SMF research fellow. His area of specialization includes WSH education, training and development, quality management and people excellence. He has been involved as a trainer, supervisor, assessor, course leader and chairman for Ngee Ann, SDWSH and MOE.

Course Fees: $639.25 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
