Course Overview

To facilitate conversation in English with patients through topics:

  1. Let’s Know Our Patient (Meeting the patient for the first time in a clinical setting)
  2. Addressing Patients and their Family Members (Understanding family relationships & addressing
    them correctly)
  3. Health Numbers (Checking patient’s personal information & health parameters which are number-
    based)
  4. History of Illness and Family (Getting information on past medical history of patient and family)
  5. When Did this Happen? (Getting general information on the chief complaint)
  6. Is This the First Time? (Getting specific information on the chief complaint)
  7. I Need to Examine you…ok? (Informing patient about examination procedures)
  8. If You Have this Problem, I Need to Do… (Assessing patients according to presenting signs &
    symptoms)
  9. Physical Examination (Conducting a gross neurological examination)
  10. I Am Sorry…I Need to Know…(Asking questions about sensitive / private issues)
  11. Mental & Emotional Health (Conducting a brief cognitive evaluation & emotional screening)
  12. Let’s Eat! (Reviewing a patient’s food & nutrition intake)
  13. Advice for Your Health (Providing information on health)
  14. I Have Bad News… (Breaking bad news to patients & their families)
  15. When You Go Home… (Handling discharge matters)

At the end of this course, participants will be able:

Please Note:

Participant(s) should at least be able to read and write English prior to joining this course, and complete an online placement test with a min. score before being accepted.

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Chris Driver

English Language Teacher, Inlingua school of languages

Mr Chris Driver is an English language teacher with over 17 years of experience. He is currently working as the director of studies; English language teacher in the Inlingua school of languages. He holds a bachelor of intercultural religious studies in communications from Trinity University, Canada (2002). Prior to joining Inlingua, he has taught English in several schools in Japan. His area of specialization include professional writing and courses for training, companies and universities. He has also developed and led intensive voice announcement training for cabin crew in SilkAir and Scoot.

Sapna Menon

English Language Teacher, Inlingua school of languages

Ms Sapna Menon is an English language teacher with over 21 years of experience and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages, as well as the British Council in Singapore. She holds a master’s in public health from New York University, USA (2001). Prior to joining Inlingua, she has worked as a medicine technologist and a research analyst in New York Hospital centres, and as a senior executive in the Duke-Nus graduate medical school. Her area of specialization includes teaching in education and healthcare industry, and healthcare research.

Bianca Choy

English Language Teacher, Inlingua school of languages

Ms Bianca Choy is an English language teacher with over 6 years of teaching experience and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia (1986). Prior to joining Inlingua, Ms Choy worked as an accountant in Bankers Trust, Sydney and CSFB, London, and as a manager in KPMG Peat Marwick, Sydney. She also worked as a part-time teacher in Chinalingua, Singapore. Her area of specialization includes accountancy and financial services, and teaching English as a second language for expatriates in Singapore.

Brooks Murray Goodyear

English Language Teacher, Inlingua school of languages

Ms Brooks Murray Goodyear is an English language teacher with more than 5 years of teaching experience and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages. She holds a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the London school of Economics, United Kingdom (1983). Prior to joining Inlingua, she worked as a paralegal in Hughes, Hubbard & Reed in New York, Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong, and Lincoln & Beale, Chicago. She has also worked in YMCA Counselling & Testing Service as a Business manager, AngloINFO as a media manager, and YMCA and CA International as an English Language Teacher. Her area of specialization includes teaching general and business English at all levels to students and corporate clients.

Nicole Lancaster-Homes

English Language Teacher, Inlingua school of languages

Ms Nicole Lancaster-Homes is an English language teacher with more than 27 years of experience and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages, as well as Subcon Technologies as a Human Resource & Administration Executive. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce, management and public relations from Murdoch University, Australia (2012). Prior to working in Inlingua, Ms Nicole has worked in Chorus Call and Belicious Swimwear as a business development & marketing executive, Qantas Airlines and Ansett Australia Airlines as a cabin crew; customer service supervisor/officer, Empire Furniture Gallery as a marketing showroom supervisor and Vivien’s Model Management as a photographic and fashion parade model. Her area of specialization includes speech and drama, customer service and business and development and marketing.

Course Fees: $517.40 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
