Course Overview

This programme will provide you with the concepts and applications to perform the roles and responsibilities of a Clinical Governance Officer for a Nursing Home (or equivalent). The roles and responsibilities of a CGO include:

  1. Oversight of the planning, development, co-ordination and evaluation of the Nursing Home service.
  2. Maintenance of oversight over Healthcare Professionals (nurses, doctors, allied health professionals) and ensures care delivered is in accordance with standards and based on best-evidence available.
  3. Ensuring safe and quality care.
  4. Ensuring appropriate skills mix and adequate manpower resourcing for all shifts and types of services.

Participants must attend the course for Quality Assurance for QAC Supervisors course first before attending this course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES / OUTLINE

Day 1:

Learn how to:

  1. Develop a clinical governance and risk management framework, to build a safety culture
  2. Engage residents and manage feedback
  3. Build a competent and effective workforce

Day 2:

Learn how to :

  1. Identify and measure patient safety indicators for performance and improvement
  2. Interpret audit findings and identify recommendations/ solutions

  1. Interactive lectures
  2. Group discussions
  3. Groupwork
  4. Skills practice
  5. Case analysis and discussion

The training curriculum and materials include training objectives, contextualised case studies, teaching aids, training slides and assessments (including MCQs).
