Course Overview

This course aims to equip participants with the clinical knowledge and skills essential for managing challenging behaviours in older adults within the nursing home. This set of skills enables participants to develop age-appropriate cognitive-stimulating activities in a nursing home setting.

 

Course Outline

This course consists of 3 modules:

  1. Managing challenging behaviours in a nursing home setting
  2. Maintaining cognitive functions in a nursing home setting
  3. Communication impairment and management in a Nursing Home Setting

Course Trainers

This course is delivered by trainers from Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital.

Ms Anita Yiu

Ms Anita Yiu is a occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience. She is currently working as the Head, Kwong Wai Shiu Care. Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Yiu has worked in several public and private organizations in Hong Kong and Singapore. She holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (1997). Her area of specialization includes occupational Therapy clinical skills, elderly care, neuro-geriatrics care, training and development. She is extensively involved in in-house training courses for therapists, therapy aides and care staff at KWSH.

Ms Juliana Wang

Ms Juliana Wang is a physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience. She is currently working as a Senior Physiotherapist at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH). Prior to joining the community care sector, Ms Wang has worked at two major tertiary hospitals in Singapore. She holds several qualifications: Master of Science in Neurological Physiotherapy (Hong Kong Polytechnic University / Hong Kong / 2013), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (University of South Australia / Australia / 2007), and Diploma in Physiotherapy (Nanyang Polytechnic / Singapore / 2005). Her area of specialization includes neurorehabilitation and geriatric rehabilitation.

 

Course Fees: $501.48 (inclusive 7% GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
