Course Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS

At the end of this course, participants will be able:

  1. Describe what is ageing and what is active ageing.
  2. Understanding the changing landscape of health and health promotion in Singapore.
  3. Understanding the benefits and barriers of physical activity.
  4. Describe the association between physical fitness and functional fitness.
  5. Identifying the various safety factors before embarking on an exercise regime.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES / OUTLINE

  1. Introduction to Active Ageing
    • Understanding the changing landscape of health and health promotion in Singapore.
    • Explore how affluence and lifestyle changes can lead to increase prevalence of chronic diseases.
    • Understanding the biology of ageing.
    • Understanding what is the determinants of active ageing.
  2. Understanding what is physical ageing.
    • Understanding the psychology of physical ageing.
    • Understanding the benefits and barriers of physical activity.
    • Benefits and barrier to physical activity.
    • Describe the association between physical fitness and functional fitness.
  3. Identifying the various safety factors before embarking on an exercise regime.

 

Please Note:

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Target Participants

Programme Managers, Programme Co-ordinators, Programme Executives, Case Workers and Care Workers in the Community Care sector.

Mr Robert Tai

Senior Lecturer, Diploma in Health Management and Promotion

Robert is currently a Senior Lecturer for the Diploma in Health Management and Promotion. He has many years of experience in industries and in education where one of his key focus had always been staff training and development. One of his key beliefs is that people are a company’s best assets and the more mentally developed they are, the more useful they are to the company. And this is the area where he would like to his spend time, in mental development. Robert graduated (in BSc & MSc) from London where he had also spent many years working, prior to returning to Singapore. As a believer in continuing education, Robert has recently completed his Masters with distinction in Counselling with the University of Hertfordshire, to enhance his people skills. He is currently undertaking his PhD studies. He has combined his knowledge to form an eclectic approach to help develop and motivate students to become people of worth and knowledge.

Course Fees: $106.09 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in eligible community care organisations.
