Conversational Hokkien For Healthcare Staff (Basic)

Course Overview

This course is intended for staff to build a strong foundation in Hokkien pronunciation and articulation. They will build up their competency in speaking and listening; basic conversational skills, grammar and sentence structure for daily use with residents/patients. At the end of the course, participants will be able to converse in simple Hokkien with residents/patients and their relatives, understand residents’/patients’ concern and answer enquiries.

    5. Calling the Patient’s Family

    8. Common Ailments and Symptoms
    9. Family Members
    10. Eating Right
    11. Colours
    12. Basic Care & Treatment
    13. Understanding Your Patients
    14. Weather
    15. Care and Treatment
    16. Commonly Used Hokkien Terms for Clinical Use
    17. Rehab Therapy Assessment Form

Please Note:

A minimum of 75% attendance will be required for you to complete the programme and receive your certificate.

Course Trainers

Ms Debbie Ng

Trainer, Inlingua school of languages

Ms Debbie Ng is a freelance trainer with 35 years of experience and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages. She holds a Bachelor of Economics in the National University of Singapore (1980). Prior to joining Inlingua, she has worked in Simon Hydraulic Jacks as a business partner, Actimek Pte Ltd as a general insurance executive and recently as a private tutor. Her area of specialization involves Chinese-Hokkien language as a trainer and and private academic tutor, entrepreneurship, and banking. She has also taught medical staff from several hospitals in Singapore.

Mr Desmond Lim

Trainer, Inlingua school of languages

Mr Desmond Lim Yew Huat is a freelance trainer and is currently working in Inlingua school of languages. Prior to joining Inlingua, he has worked as a radio DJ for Mediacorp Radio 88.3fm. His area of specialization includes performing arts and radio broadcasting. He has also conducted conversational hokkien language courses run by AIC to nursing homes.

Course Fees: $517.40 (excluding GST)

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singaporeans/ PRs and 45% for foreign staff working in
eligible community care organisations.
